ACADEMICS

Drawing on HKUST's areas of expertise in science, engineering, management and the social sciences, you will be trained to examine environmental challenges from multiple viewpoints, and to seek new and innovative solutions.

Program Highlights

Students studying a 4-year bachelor's degree are required to complete the following requirements:

It consists of three parts:
(1) fundamental courses (2) required courses and (3) electives.

In your final year, your team will work with a corporate partner on a current environmental issue. The year-long capstone project integrates classroom concepts and allows you to apply your knowledge under the supervision of an experienced manager to get hands on experience in environmental decision making.

In order to bring to life your classroom studies, various visits to environmental projects in Hong Kong and Asia will be organized to inform your understanding of environmental issues with the views of those on the front lines of building sustainable systems. Click for details.

Drawing on HKUST's expertise in science, engineering, management and social sciences, the EVMT program examines environmental issues from multiple perspectives. This enables students to integrate different points of view in their evaluation and generation of ideas and solutions. In addition to investigating environmental and sustainability issues on local, regional and global levels, students will also have an opportunity to study specially designed courses in pertinent environmental subjects such as environmental technology, environmental law, corporate accounting and auditing, green business, energy resources and sustainable development, among others. Theories are put into practice through case studies or placement programs like the Capstone Project, where students work with companies and NGOs to tackle real-world problems. More >>

Students who prefer more time to explore their interests can first apply for admission to any of the four Schools (Science (SSCI), Engineering (SENG), Business and Management (SBM) or Humanities and Social Science (SHSS)) at HKUST via school-based admission, and then apply to enroll in EVMT major via the Major Declaration Exercise at the end of the first year of study.
